Every Day Matters…

I often work with my therapy clients to help them understand that attitude is a choice.

LIFE IS SHORT: We create our own world by the way in which we choose to see it. It’s important to remember that you can focus your time on fear, worry, problems and negativity..OR…you can focus on confidence, opportunity, solutions, and optimism.

THINK ABOUT FORGIVENESS: It’s important to try to let go of past hurts…I know that this is certainly not easy. Feelings of resentment and anger often drag us down. The courage to forgive (in certain circumstances) can be liberating.

MOVE FORWARD: Today I came across a wonderful quote: “Yesterday is a cancelled check. The past is not your potential. There are far better things ahead than you can leave behind. The future is a blank canvas, clean and bright. Decide that you will throw all the paint on it that you can!”

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WORRY: It is estimated that 99 out of the 100 things that we worry about will never come to pass. I often ask my clients to step back and carefully examine their worries. If you stopped engaging in these worries, would that give you more time to enjoy the present? What did you worry about in the past? Have these things actually come to pass? Take a reality check.

BE GRATEFUL: Take a moment to be thankful for the positive things/people/animals in your life.

Remember…what you focus on increases. The happiness of life is composed of small, little things…a smile, a helping hand, a moment of shared joy. We are alive in those moments. Focus on them and make every day matter.
